In June 2017, littleBits launched the Code Kit to help introduce students to coding through an activity they love: making and playing games.

Since launch, we have been so excited to share the kit with educators, librarians, and makerspace leaders -- even if they have no prior STEAM experience -- because it’s just so easy to teach. The littleBits Code Kit combines electronic building blocks with approachable drag-and-drop Blockly programming, providing a foundation of coding as a creative tool that can power real-world inventions.

Here’s one of the videos we created to introduce Code Kit to the world!

Blockly + JavaScript Shows Students What’s “Inside the Machine”

Today, we are excited to share that the Code Kit will be getting a makeover. It will still enable students to build, code, and play games, while providing educators with a powerful toolbox to easily teach standards-aligned curriculum. But now, Blockly and JavaScript will be included in its programming interface through a free desktop app that powers physical inventions and hands-on learning through play.

This update will give students a hands-on understanding of what’s “inside the machine” and how it connects to the software. Scaffolded lessons and activities included with the Code Kit are customizable for grades 3 through 8 via self-guided instruction or group collaboration in classrooms and makerspaces.

The Code Kit comes with:

  • 16 Bits and 30 accessories
  • Free programming app
  • 20 hours of CSTA and NGSS standards-aligned curriculum, lesson plans, and educator resources

The updated Code Kit is available for $299.95 at littleBits.com
