2025 in Review: What’s New For You at Sphero

If 2025 taught us anything, it’s that the classroom is evolving fast—and we’ve been sprinting right alongside it. We launched new products, rolled out software updates, and expanded our lesson library to help students go from "How does this work?" to "Look what I did!"

Our goal? To help students develop crucial career-ready skills—like computational thinking, the engineering design process, and AI literacy—without losing the fun, hands-on magic that makes Sphero, well, Sphero. From early engineering with Blueprint Snap to programming in Python, we’ve been busy building the tools educators need to prepare students for what’s next.

Did you miss an update? Don’t worry, we took notes. Here’s your official roundup of everything new at Sphero in 2025.

New Classroom Tools

We know that flexible, hands-on learning environments need gear that can keep up. This year, we introduced three new classroom tools.

Blueprint Snap

This was a big one! Blueprint Snap launched as our engineering solution for Grades 3–5, giving students a hands-on way to explore engineering fundamentals that they’ll build on in later grades.

indi Folding Code Mat

The new indi Folding Code Mat & Stickers transforms any space into a coding playground. The grid design helps students place their color tiles quickly and accurately, while the dry-erase surface and stickers add creativity and storytelling to every indi maze, challenge, or project. Set the mats up in seconds, then fold them for easy storage between lessons.

RVR+ Code Mat

Ready for a mission to Mars? The RVR+ Code Mat features a dual-sided design. One side has a grid for open-ended coding. The other has a Martian map with base stations and obstacles, supported by ready-to-go companion challenges in Sphero Central.

Lessons and Resources

Alongside new classroom tools, we expanded our lesson library with practical, classroom-ready resources for learners across all grade levels.

Early & Foundation Learning

We continued to build early learning experiences that prioritize confidence and curiosity as students develop foundational skills.

Engineering Lessons

With the launch of Blueprint Snap, we created a full pathway for engineering education.

AI Lessons

AI isn’t just a buzzword; it’s a growing part of how technology works today. But AI literacy doesn’t start with ChatGPT—it starts with critical thinking and a solid understanding of computer science.

CTE Lessons and Resources

This year, we released a guide that maps Sphero lessons directly to Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs of study.

The Sphero Global Challenge

We wrapped up a fantastic season of spy-themed challenges with a World Championship. Then, kicked off Season 6, Outdoor Adventures. Teams can participate using BOLT+, RVR+, and indi. Registration is still open for a limited time—don't miss out!

Platform & Software

We’ve been hard at work making the Sphero Edu app more powerful and user-friendly.

AI Integration

We believe AI should be a "teaching sidekick," not a shortcut. We integrated an AI Assistant directly into the Sphero Edu app and web app. Features like Explain My Program help students understand how and why their code works (or doesn't) by offering real-time explanations without giving away the answer.

Python Programming

Python has officially joined Draw, Blocks, and JavaScript as a programming option in the Sphero Edu App! Students can now use Python, one of the most popular programming languages, to control their robots, bridging the gap between the classroom and professional programming. The BOLT+ Python Labs Collection gives students the opportunity to flex their Python muscles and see the code move from the screen into the real world.

Web App

More educators and students than ever are programming their robots with the Sphero Web App, and we’ve been continually improving the experience to support that growth. The Web App now renders live sensor data, has all of the same AI integration you see in our apps, and is dark mode-friendly. The Web App has made it easier for classrooms to easily connect to our robots and start programming; we’re excited to see its continued growth in 2026!

What’s Next?

We are continually adding new, free lessons and resources to Sphero Central every month.

And...one more thing.

We’re working on something completely new. We’re keeping the details under wraps for now, but it will change the way students engage with engineering, computer science, robotics, and real-world problem solving. We can’t wait to share it with you later this year.

Subscribe to our mailing list and join our community on LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook to be the first to know about it.

Chat with your Sphero Rep

If you’re exploring Sphero and want to see how all this could fit into your school, the best next step is to book a conversation with your Sphero Rep. Our team can help you

  • understand which solutions make sense for you

  • learn how schools typically get started or scale over time

  • answer high-level questions about rollout, funding, and implementation

Let’s have another great year together!
