The Hudson Montessori School in Jersey City, New Jersey, is a K-6 school focused on engaging students in their own learning through real-world connections. The school's STEAM lab is an integral piece of the puzzle, offering students a wide range of tools and materials to bring classroom projects to life.

“It’s important to us to offer students open-ended design challenges and encourage them to explore design concepts,” said Michelle Velho, STEAM Director. “For example, we make use of recycled materials, our tech tools and present a challenge to encourage teamwork and collaboration. In this manner, students engage left-brain and right-brain, so all students feel supported and build confidence.”

Through a Maker Monday series, the STEAM lab is open to all classes serving approximately 100 students. Michelle and Grace Sanvictores, STEAM Teacher, started small and built their resources over time. Michelle and Grace share how they incorporated a STEAM lab and engaged students in real-world application in our latest case study.
