For high school students (ages 14–18), we have an exciting event designed to build proficiency in programming and engineering using documentation from the Sphero Public SDK.

Your Mission: The RVR Super Car mission will challenge students to embrace the creativity and ingenuity that goes into designing and engineering a Super Car. Teams of up to five students born after May 1, 2003 are eligible to compete in this exciting event. Recommended for students with intermediate to advanced coding/STEM skills.

    You're a Hero!

    In this hackathon-style event, students will use Raspberry Pi to turn Sphero RVR into a supercar for a superhero. Students will demonstrate their proficiency in programming, engineering using documentation from the Sphero Public SDK. Students will get a taste of the engineering process that it takes to build a product from concept to final delivery by budgeting, creating a cost/benefit analysis, prototyping and iteration.

    DREAM TEAMS ASSEMBLE

    Starting a team of real-life heroes is easy! Coaches do not need to be programmers, or even educators, to support students through the Sphero Global Challenge. Instead, act as a facilitator as students work to explore, solve problems, and unleash their creativity.

    Sphero will provide a mission brief, lessons, and agendas for each event, as well as a forum for coaches to provide one another support. The Sphero Global Challenge is perfect for after-school programs, STEM/STEAM Clubs, school-day science blocks, or even for students to work on at home.

     

    Structuring Your Team

    Teams can consist of 1–5 students. A single team can compete in one or multiple events (depending on age bracket eligibility). For larger groups of students (i.e. robotics clubs), we recommend forming multiple teams. In this case, you will need to register each team separately. They can all compete in the same event(s) or choose different events. Coaches are welcome to lead as many teams as they'd like.

    Team Roles

    Coaches can encourage collaboration, communication, and team building by giving students team roles to help fulfill all of the elements of the mission objectives.

    2021/2022 SEASON: FIVE UNIQUE STEM EVENTS

    The competition, and its five unique events, are an opportunity for students to go deeper with computational thinking, engineering, and programming skills in our various STEM and coding competitions.

    Teams and individuals of all abilities will work to identify problems and develop solutions, then submit entries virtually for a chance to qualify for the Sphero World Championship in Spring 2022.

    The Sphero Global Challenge is an exciting opportunity for students! Not only are they able to practice coding, design, and problem-solving skills, they will also have the chance to build and strengthen their innovative thinking and collaboration skills. In the setting of a team challenge, students will use the engineering design process in an authentic way.
