Sphero Edu partners with CodeFWD by Facebook, plus commits to CSforAll

21st century skills have never been more important, and the way we see it, computer science and programming education are on the up and up. The best part is, we’re not the only ones who think so. We’ve got 2 awesome partnerships that we’re stoked to share with the world.

Sphero Edu would 👍 “like” to announce our partnership with CodeFWD by Facebook, — a free program for teachers and other adults working with 4th through 8th graders in the U.S. to inspire interest in the field of computer programming. Together, Sphero Edu and CodeFWD by Facebook are working to expand participation of underrepresented minority students in programming, including Black, Latino/Hispanic, Native American, and female communities. The goal? Helping the next generation of tech innovators to better reflect and incorporate diversity.

So how exactly do we plan on doing that? Sphero Edu and CodeFWD by Facebook are offering a free Sphero BOLT Power Pack for a select number of accepted applicants. 😵 That’s how.

We know that kids are increasingly getting involved in STEAM education, and our hope is to encourage and expand the reach of STEAM learning through this partnership. After all, the Sphero mission is to inspire the creators of tomorrow… so more accessible robots mean more inspiration, more creators, and more awesome in the future.

But wait! There’s more!

We’ve also made 2 commitments to CSforAll, whose goal is to make high-quality computer science an integral part of the educational experience of all K-12 students.

  1. Sphero will design 70 new cross-curricular CS lessons aligned to ELA, Math, Science and Social Studies standards, enabling 40,000 teachers to expose students to CS principles while working through the everyday curriculum by summer 2019.
  2. Sphero will offer additional Computer Science professional learning opportunities by bundling our services with our products to ensure that all educators feel supported and confident while altering their teaching practice to include CS principles.

Our work with CodeFWD by Facebook and CSforAll is all about getting more opportunities out there for more students. The more the merrier, right?
