The Sphero Global Challenge for middle school learners (ages 11–14; students must be born after May 1, 2010, meaning they will be 14 or younger when the SWC is held in Spring 2024) will challenge learners to become master programmers, problem solvers, and top-notch teammates. With Mission Objectives designed for all ability levels, we believe that students will grow and have a blast on this time-traveling adventure.

The Sphero Global Challenge allows students to compete with their peers around the world, with the top teams invited to participate in our Sphero World Championship (SWC) in Spring 2025, where they can put their skills to the ultimate test.

With your registration, you will choose one of the two Events to compete in:

RVR+: Portal Through Time
RVR+ is a great companion for time travel! Starting in the present day and moving through the past and into the future, RVR+ and Blueprint will help you transport supplies, autonomously navigate different terrains, and help you learn to code along the way.

BOLT: Time Travel Odyssey
Have you ever wished you could experience a different time in human history? Well, there’s no time like the present to time travel. Grab your friends, two BOLT robots, and your Sphero Global Challenge Blueprint Kit, and prepare for an adventure. Don’t forget to bring your best teamwork, problem solving, and communication skills to accomplish the Mission Objectives and safely return home!

Robots and the Sphero Global Challenge Season 5 Blueprint Kit are required for these events and are sold separately. See all required materials below.

Coaching materials will be available after redeeming your team’s code on the Sphero Global Challenge Registration Site.

BOLT: Time Travel Odyssey

Have you ever wished you could experience a different time in human history?

Well, there’s no time like the present to time travel. Grab your friends, two BOLT robots, and the Sphero Global Challenge Blueprint Kit, and prepare for an adventure. Don’t forget to bring your best teamwork, problem solving, and communication skills to accomplish the Mission Objectives and safely return home!

RVR+: Portal Through Time

RVR+ is a great companion for time travel!

Starting in the present day and moving through the past and into the future RVR+ will help you transport supplies, autonomously navigate through different terrains, and help you learn coding along the way.

Gather Your Chrononaut Crew!

Starting a team to embark on a journey through time is easier than you think! Coaches do not need to be programmers or educators to support students through the Sphero Global Challenge. Instead, act as a facilitator as students work to explore, solve problems, and unleash their creativity

The Coaching Guides will give you the tools and structure to guide your students through each event. The Sphero Global Challenge is perfect for after-school programs, STEM/STEAM Clubs, school-day science blocks, or even for students to work on at home.

Structuring Your Team

Teams can consist of 1–5 students. After purchasing the registration, you will be emailed a redemption code, which you can use to register your team on the official Sphero Global Challenge site. For larger groups, we recommend forming multiple teams. In this case, you need to purchase a registration and enter a redemption code for each team separately. Coaches are welcome to lead as many teams as they'd like.

Team Roles

We encourage students to take on a role for the competition (or switch them for each Mission Objective) to establish a sense of agency.

Suggested roles could include, but are not limited to, the following:

ProgrammerEngineerDebuggerDesignerMission Manager

A Challenge That’s FUN

“Be ready for a challenge, but it's a really fun one. You should still do it even if you don’t know how to code. Overcoming all the unexpected challenges and figuring it out is the best part.”
