Celebrate Women’s Equality in Your Classroom

Make classroom learning relevant and memorable by inviting students to create their own ballot box and see democracy in action! In July 1848, the first women’s rights convention took place in Seneca, New York. At the Seneca Falls Convention, women and some men gathered to discuss ideas to advance women’s rights and they wrote a Declaration of Sentiments, which included giving women the right to vote. And yet, it would take more than 30 years for that central idea to become a ratified amendment to the Constitution.

Leading STEAM Exploration Through Art Engages Students Early and Often!

Leading with the art in STEAM is a phenomenal way to engage elementary students early on and build their interest over time. Makerspaces can be especially inviting and creative areas that enable students to broaden their learning, explore multiple content areas simultaneously, and engage in new creative technology.

One Teacher Who Didn't Take STEAM for Granted

Jasen Gibbens, a teacher at McLean High School in Terre Haute, Indiana, started his career as an engineer for General Electric and became a teacher ten years ago. Since that time, his goal has been to provide students with the hands-on manipulatives that encourage creative problem solving and help them to reach their full potential.

Hands-on Learning, Lessons, and Community Take Center Stage at ISTE 2019

Philadelphia proved to be a wonderfully welcoming city for educators, administrators, and STEAM advocates this week at ISTE 2019! As the conference kicked off, we invited attendees to Power Up with healthy snacks and shared a bunch of new announcements:

Cultivating A Maker Mindset: From the Library to the Classroom

School libraries are transforming -- often from monolithic reading rooms to innovation hubs. And while it’s a common misconception that STEAM education starts in the classroom and “ends up” in common spaces like the library, you may be surprised to know that librarians are often responsible for starting and scaling makerspaces in schools and districts.

Ayah Bdeir Supports #ISeeMe with DonorsChoose.org to Empower Students to Become Tomorrow’s ChangeMakers

Supporting teachers in classrooms is a quick and easy way to ensure students have the materials they need to create a fun and rewarding learning environment. Taking that notion a step further, DonorsChoose.org launched #ISeeMe to enable people to support classroom requests from underrepresented educators and from all teachers who seek materials that reflect their students’ identities.

Integrating littleBits Into the Classroom: Tips and Tricks

littleBits are used in many different settings -- schools, makerspaces, libraries, and even at home. But we often get feedback from educators looking for tips to integrate their Bits into the classroom. After all, it can be incredibly overwhelming!

littleBits’ New Expansion Packs Put the “Technology” and “Mathematics” Back Into STEAM

Back in March, we introduced our first set of STEAM Student Set and Code Kit Expansion Packs, which provided additional bits and content banded by grade and subject. We started with Science and Computer Science, but we knew that the potential for Expansion Packs was limitless.
